April challenge Reversible Sling Bag
I’ve been sewing along with the Project Run and Play for 2 out of 3 months. I really love how it challenges me to look at a pattern and see how I can adjust it to our own wishes. This months challenge is Sugar Bee Crafts Reversible Sling Bag pattern. Sugar Bees pattern is really easy to follow and easy to alter to your needs. You can download the free pattern here.
Our big little boy needed a new bag for his swimwear. When asked what kind of bag he wanted his answer was “ A PIRATE BAG, Mommy!”. Luckily I had some left over pirate like fabric in my stash from a previous sea battle. Skull fabric, previously used for a curtain for his playhouse, and left over red and white striped pirate fabric from an altered bedsheet.
For the lining of the sling bag I used some red and white checkered fabric from my stash. The original pattern is for a reversible bag. The sling bag I made is still reversible but I don’t think we’ll see a lot of the checkered lining.
Because all his swim gear has to fit I altered the pattern. I lengthened the pattern bij 8 cm/3.15 inch and widened the middle panel. I added a little pocket in the centre panel. I contemplated on making a waterproof bag but finally decided on staying with fabric that easier to trow in the washing machine.
Yesterday the pirate sling bag had a first run and met up to the expectations of our little one. He kept running around to show everybody his pirate bag. It was sooooooo cute. (and even cuter that he kept telling everybody who wanted to hear that ” Mommy made it for me”)
At night he asked me to make him a school bag based on this pattern because a bunch of his classmates also have sling bags and he really loves his swim bag. I don’t think I can finish that one in time to enter to the challenge but I’ll keep you updated when it’s finished.
